Ragusa is one of the kind and puts you immediately at your ease. Its origin is coming from a very ancient period. After the earthquake (1693), the city was totally rebuild in the Baroque style. The presence of those baroque monuments gave the opportunity to Ragusa to be declared Historical Patrimony in 2002. After this visit, we'll join the city of Modica, located in the southern area of the "Monte Iblei". The city was occupied by various successive tribes; from the Greeks to the Phoenician and, last but not least, the Normans. The fame of Modica is due to its situation; the city is divided in 2 areas : Modica Alta ( built-in the mountain) and Modica Bassa, located in a place where, a long time ago, were running two rivers. Today, those rivers are replaced by the" Corso Umberto", wonderful baroque representation rich of architectural elements.
